2-27-14: “Feldman makes three pointer at halftime of basketball game to win"
Some people don't realize how much working hard everyday can pay off in the littlest of ways. Eighth grader (ninth next year), Michael Feldman, went to the Calvert versus northern basketball game at northern. At halftime they had a three point contest in which you win a 2-liter with a make. The contest was just volunteers from the stand including Feldman. Feldman won the contest representing northern high football as he said "football has helped alot, before I started conditioning I couldn't really shoot a three pointer that well, but I've gotten better at it because of football".

2-11-14: "Everyone is created equal, some work harder in preseason," a quote from three time super bowl winner and hall of famer, Emmitt Smith. This is exactly what coach Darren DeMeio plans on doing by having his 2014 winter-summer football weight and conditioning program.
The work out consists of two groups. One that ends at 5:00 p.m and another that ends at 6:00 p.m. Group one starts outside or inside depending on the conditions outside, then at 4:00 group one heads in the weight room. "Its a good workout but its not easy. It will help me get stronger, and its going to change me," said incoming freshman Johnny Futrell. Group two does the same exact workout as group one but from 2:40 to 3:40 they are in study hall.
Coach DeMeio's weight and conditioning program is every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. On Mondays it is a speed and leg day meaning outside there will be speed workouts like 100 meter dash's and running techniques. After running outside, the students go in the weight room. In the weight room the students will do squats, lunges, calf raises, mainly all legs workouts, and abs. "It will help me get better, so I can help the team as much as I can," said next year senior, Ryan Phair. On Tuesdays it is an upper body and conditioning day. Usually the groups are inside on Tuesday, thus for conditioning the students run laps in the school and run the steps in the school. After that the players get in the weight room and get set up for bench, pull ups, push ups, push press, and dips. On Thursday it is a power and agility day. Inside/outside the players will do all different types of drills on agility ladders and the dot mats. In the weight room the players do power cleans, front squats, romanian dead lifts, and mainly workouts that involve your legs and you upper body. "Its a great program and it'll do way more for you then going to the gym and doing your own workout" said soon to be senior, Russell Bertino.
The weight and conditioning program brings together 8th, 9th, 10th, and 11th graders (all players will be a grade higher next football season). The program builds up team chemistry and creates memories that will last forever. "Excellent program tones out everything on the body and builds brother bonds with everyone," said next year senior Nick Childress. As coach Cranford always likes to say "lets be great today".

A SEASON TO BUILD ON
1-18-14: The opening season game began with a tough overtime loss to the mid-county rival Huntingtown Hurricanes. The season ended with the Patuxent Panthers scoring with 6 seconds left in the game to take the lead for the win. But the one thing you could count on was that the Patriots played hard from start to finish. We are looking forward to the 2014 season. Study hard, practice hard, and play hard...great things will happen.
This year was filled with players making plays, game after game. Even though the team fell short from making the post season, there were players whose performances and accomplishments ranked among the leaders in the SMAC conference an the region. Among the State of Maryland regional all-stars, two Northern Players made the Maryland "Big School All-Star Team".
